After forming in 2017 as a solo project of Germaine Jones, Trolley Boy has evolved from its stripped bare punk roots to its current form with Elloise Walsh, Sara McPherson and Willow Fearns transforming Jones’ punk ballads of love, despondency and pain into unflinching rock. Taking Perth’s garage rock tradition and twisting it with their own signature rough lyrics against clean, driving guitar rock, Trolley Boy speak with the voice of Perth’s exiled suburbs, the alleys behind the rock bars, the piers at night. Germaine Jones’ lyrics possess an underdog poetry with a 70s punk grit, while the band’s new, all-women lineup of Perth scene veterans shares blood with the Love Junkies, New Talk and Moana.
